The Boise State Broncos made their decision on who will start at quarterback for the team in 2024. It’s a bit of a surprise, as it won’t be former five-star recruit Malachi Nelson. Instead, it’s Maddux Madsen.
Madsen, a redshirt sophomore, will get the nod over Nelson for Boise State’s Week 1 game against Georgia Southern.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported the news on Boise State and their decision at quarterback.

The Broncos are hoping to get back to prosperity this season. They’re no doubt one of the best Group of 5 teams in the country. However, it’s been a while since they’ve been as dominant as they used to be. Their last season with fewer than three losses was 2019, and they’ve had just two 12 win seasons since 2014.
Boise State is hoping the right recipe leads to more success this season. They went just 8-6 last year and fired Andy Avalos after ten games. Spencer Danielson took over for the team and later received full-time head coaching status. He brought on former Boise State quarterback Dirk Koetter as offensive coordinator, Nate Potter, and Erik Chinander as defensive coordinator.
The Broncos will put a lot on Madsen’s shoulders, but we’ll see how he fares.
