The Colorado Buffaloes have a track to the Big 12 Championship Game. To that end, they also have an outside shot at making the 2024 College Football Playoff.

Deion Sanders’ Buffaloes would have to win the conference to do it, but after Iowa State’s slip-up last weekend, CU is close to making a run. Iowa State still has Kansas State on its schedule, and Colorado must continue winning. If ISU slips up and Colorado doesn’t, Deion and the Buffs will likely play BYU for the conference title and a trip to the playoff.

ESPN personality Stanford Steve Coughlin, a former Cardinal standout, predicted that Colorado could make the 2024 Playoffs if they win out, because the path there now exists.

“Well, it goes back to last week, because Colorado is a team that didn’t play,” the ESPN personality said on SportsCenter via On3. He echoed a similar point that Fox’s Joel Klatt made. Klatt had explained CU won big last weekend without playing because everything they needed to have happen, happened, giving them a clear window to run through.

“Now there’s a path for them. Win out,” he argued. Colorado will play Texas Tech, Utah, Kansas, and Oklahoma State in the final bend of their season. All of them are winnable games. You might not have thought it to begin the season, but the Buffaloes are on the cusp. They’re going to make it interesting, it seems, which may entice many around the nation.
