Dan Lanning Oregon Oregon head coach Dan Lanning speaks during Oregon football’s media day Monday, July 29, 2024 at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Ore.

Oregon head coach Dan Lanning has a lot of respect for Boise State star Ashton Jeanty.

In the Broncos’ Week 1 opener, Jeanty ran all over Georgia Southern. Jeanty rushed for 267 yards on 20 carries. He also scored a whopping six touchdowns against the Eagles in a dynamo performance.

Oregon will host Boise State this week. The Ducks hope to return to their prolific ways after a slow start last week against Idaho. But Lanning and Oregon have a lot of respect for the star running back coming to Eugene this weekend.

“This is the best running back I’ve seen since I’ve been here,” Lanning told reporters. “This is an NFL guy.”

If Jeanty continues running the football this way, he likely has big NFL prospects ahead of him. Oregon’s defense, though, was perhaps one of the few highlights of their sluggish performance in Week 1.

Turning around to Week 2 will be imperative for the Ducks as they face stiff competition. Oregon is still a 20-point favorite ahead of Saturday night’s matchup in Eugene. Time will tell to see how this shakes out. But make no mistake: Mutual respect is in the air.
