Oregon An Oregon “O” adorns the helmet of kicker Atticus Sappington during practice with the Oregon Ducks Friday, Aug. 9, 2024 at the Hatfield-Dowlin Complex in Eugene, Ore.

In case you’re wondering, Oregon is well aware of the scoreboard. The Ducks host the Boise State Broncos this weekend in Week 2 of the college football season. After a sluggish start, Oregon hopes to get back on track against the visiting Broncos.

Boasting Ashton Jeanty, Boise State will present a unique challenge for Oregon. The Ducks haven’t had the best luck against the Broncos in the past. They’ve met three times in history, and Oregon’s lost all three matchups.

Head coach Dan Lanning is aware of the score. And he says his players are too.

“We’ve talked. Our players are aware of the history of this game, for sure. Excited to get the opportunity to step on the field,” Lanning told reporters.

Their most infamous collision occurred back in 2009. In Chip Kelly’s first game as head coach, the Ducks fell to the Broncos on the blue turf. Then in an infamous moment, LeGarrette Blount punched a Boise State player in the face, which resulted in a lengthy suspension for Blount.

It’s pretty crazy that, after that game, Kelly became a star and the Ducks program ascended.

Oregon has some issues to correct going into this weekend. Lanning believes every issue the team has is correctable, so it will prove interesting to see how they come out. If they had a great week of practice, expect them to come out hungry and eager right away.

Oregon will kickoff against Boise State at 10 p.m. Eastern Saturday night.
