The Colorado Buffaloes’ chances of winning the Big 12 and making the College Football Playoff took a hit on Saturday night when they fell 31-28 to the Kansas State Wildcats in Boulder.
The loss pushed Colorado to 4-2 on the season and 2-1 in conference play, making them one of the eight Big 12 teams with zero or one conference loss.
Colorado fought back from being down 21-7 midway through the third quarter, taking a 28-24 lead with three minutes to play before Kansas State stormed down the field for a touchdown of their own to make it 31-28.
After the game, Colorado head coach Deion Sanders was reflective, saying that sometimes these things happen in football.
“Tell them to self-reflect. Everybody wants opportunities to be that guy, and oftentimes you get opportunities to be that guy, and you’re upset that you didn’t rise to the occasion. So just self-reflect. Sometimes when you lose in life, you get your butt kicked. You just got to take it. But sometimes you lose, you say, dang, we should have won that. We should have had that,” Sanders said in his postgame press conference.
Multiple Buffaloes players left the game with injuries, including two-way star Travis Hunter and wide receivers Jimmie Horn and Terrell Timmons.
Sanders wanted to clarify that he wasn’t taking anything away from Kansas State.
“That’s not taking anything away from our opponents, because they played their butts off, and they’re in the locker room right now celebrating having a good time, and they deserve it. But for us, we just felt like we let that one slip away and we got to do a better job of taking advantage of the opportunities that we had to win that game, because we had several,” he added.
Colorado will have a chance to get back on track when they head to Tuscon on October 19 to face the Arizona Wildcats.
