The Iowa Hawkeyes are under an intense microscope that the program doesn’t ordinarily receive. Head coach Kirk Ferentz and assistants on his staff face punishment for recruiting quarterback Cade McNamara.
The former Michigan quarterback transferred to the Hawkeyes after the 2022 college football season. But the Hawkeyes allegedly contacted him prior to his entrance to the transfer portal late last year.
The Athletic’s Scott Dochterman reported the news of the penalties Ferentz and his staff will face.

Dochterman clarified that, right now, it’s unknown whether the punishment for Ferentz and his staff comes from the university or the NCAA.
Recruiting violations can happen absolutely anywhere, and perhaps that’s the lesson here in this situation. It’s not often that you see Ferentz and the Iowa program get in trouble, especially for even a situation that results in a small suspension.
It’s nonetheless true now, though and the Hawkeyes will have to deal with what comes next. The college football world had much to say about this Iowa controversy.
We need to go full Michigan and pretend Kirk died. Make shirts, have Seth Wallace give a tearful interview after the game, punt on the first play of the game, things of that nature
