The Texas Longhorns are in a very desirable situation at the moment.
Undefeated at 5-0 and back in the top two of the AP Poll for the first time in 15 years, Texas has answered every call so far this season.
More impressively, they’ve been without starting quarterback Quinn Ewers, who missed the past two-and-a-half games with an oblique injury suffered in the first half of Texas’ blowout victory over the UTSA Roadrunners on September 14.
Texas hasn’t missed a beat, though, thanks to freshman quarterback Arch Manning. Manning, the much-hyped nephew of NFL legends Peyton and Eli Manning, transitioned seamlessly to the starting role.
This week, Fox’s Joel Klatt appeared on The Herd with Colin Cowherd and said that he is not only sold on Manning but also believes there are just a handful of schools that the quarterback wouldn’t start at.
“I watch Arch Manning and I got to give this kid credit. He would start for virtually every other college team in America,” Cowherd said via Athlon Sports.
Klatt agreed, saying, “There’s no question, He probably doesn’t start at Colorado and Texas. That might be it. And maybe Alabama because of Jalen Milroe.”
This season, Manning has completed 55-of-78 passes for 900 yards and has nine touchdown passes to two interceptions. He also has three rushing touchdowns.
While Ewers is expected to return in the Red River Rivalry against the Oklahoma Sooners on October 12, Manning’s strong performance as a starter is something head coach Steve Sarkisian and Texas’ staff have to be thrilled about, especially for the future.
