Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns have received a commitment from a top 10 recruit in the class of 2025.

Jonah Williams, who is No. 8 on ESPN’s top 300 for 2025 and the site’s top-ranked outside linebacker, pledged his commitment to the Longhorns Saturday night.

Williams will also be playing baseball for the Longhorns, ESPN noted.

“It’s 50-50, baseball and football. The opportunities [at Texas] with life after football were part of my choice. The coaching staff really made me feel comfortable about my decision,” Williams told ESPN on Saturday night.

Williams is Texas’ highest-ranked commit since quarterback Arch Manning in 2023, and is the highest-ranked linebacker commit since Jordan Hicks in 2010. The Galveston native picked the Longhorns over the LSU Tigers, Oregon Ducks, Texas A&M Aggies, and USC Trojans who rounded out his top five.

Williams was one of the only players in the top 25 of ESPN’s 2025 Top 300 to have not yet committed to any school for next year. Texas lost in-state five-star offensive lineman Michael Fasusi to the Oklahoma Sooners earlier this week, and lost five-star in-state wide receiver Dakorien Moore to Oregon in July, so getting the best remaining player from Texas became paramount for Sarkisian and the Longhorns.

As of the last update, Texas had the 17th-ranked class in ESPN’s rankings, but Williams’ commitment should push the Longhorns into the top 15, if not higher.
