Iowa Hawkeyes head coach Kirk Ferentz faces a suspension over the recruitment of transfer quarterback Cade McNamara.
Hawkeyes reporter Scott Dochterman reported the news of the violation and punishment heading toward Ferentz and his staff on Thursday morning.
Dochterman noted that Ferentz and his staff will be suspended for one game.

The Hawkeyes allegedly contacted McNamara, formerly a quarterback at the University of Michigan, before he entered the transfer portal. Records show that McNamara committed to the Hawkeyes three days after entering the portal.
Dochterman clarified that, right now, it’s unknown whether the punishment for Ferentz and his staff comes from the university or the NCAA.
Iowa will begin anew this season with a new offense, hopefully led by McNamara. The former Michigan transfer has been working back from an ACL injury. This new situation has now put undue attention on him and the program. But, just like usual, they’ll keep their heads down and plow ahead at Iowa.
It’s not very often that you see Ferentz and the Hawkeyes program in the spotlight like this. But it goes to show that recruiting violations don’t just happen at the usual stops. It doesn’t matter who you are.
