The Louisville Cardinals are 4-3 at the halfway point of the 2024 season, and look poised to make their fourth straight bowl game and second straight under second-year head coach Jeff Brohm.

Quarterback Tyler Shough has been among the ACC’s best passers this year, going 147-for-234 for 2,016 yards and 18 touchdowns to just three interceptions.

However, if Shough and the Cardinals want to finish the season on a high note, they’ll be without one of their receiving options.

On Wednesday, ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg reported that Louisville wide receiver Caullin Lacy would be opting out of the rest of the season and is eligible to return for the 2025 season, as he qualifies for a medical redshirt.

As Rittenberg notes, Lacy was one of the most impactful players in the transfer portal over the offseason. In the 2023 season, he finished fifth in the nation with 91 receptions and 1,316 yards for the South Alabama Jaguars.

A preseason collarbone injury cost the wide receiver his first month at Louisville, not making his debut until the team’s September 28 loss to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. In four games for the Cardinals, the senior wide receiver hauled in 15 receptions for 179 yards.

Louisville returns to action Friday night when they host the Boston College Eagles.
