No one could believe that the Alabama Crimson Tide lost to Vanderbilt, including Mark Ingram.

The former Heisman Trophy winner and National Champion running back discussed what he felt was an “atrocious” performance for the Crimson Tide against the Commodores. Vandy’s shocking upset of the No. 1 Tide has been the talk of the college football world, and that continued for Ingram on Wednesday’s episode of The Triple Option.

Ingram described his feelings watching the Crimson Tide struggle against the Commodores after Rob Stone noted how many upsets went down this weekend.

“It’s actually quite comical. Like, you go and just get smacked by Vandy?” Ingram said incredulously. “I’m sitting here on the plane, like, watching this. I’m like, ‘Is this even real life? Like, what’s happening?’ We go on the road and can’t do anything. No matter how you slice this cake, it’s atrocious. No matter how you slice the cake, it’s atrocious.”

The Crimson Tide alum said that the atrocious news was that they lost, and the bad news – there are two different levels, according to Ingram, because the Tide “doesn’t lose to Vandy.” It’s true, the Commodores don’t. Stone noted that Ray Perkins, former Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach, was the last coach to beat Alabama at Vanderbilt. Ingram talked about how grabbing the win over Georgia left them in a great spot, but all that momentum went kaput.

Ingram discussed the team’s defensive issues right now and how it led to problems on Saturday. If they want to contend this season earnestly, Alabama will have to curb those issues.
