Will Caleb Downs play on both sides of the ball? It sounds like the Ohio State star isn’t ruling it out.
Downs transferred to the Buckeyes this past offseason after one celebrated season with the Alabama Crimson Tide. The move up north caused a stir in the college football world and is one of many reasons why pundits have picked OSU to win it all this year. Downs’ impact as just a 19-year-old is remarkable.
But will he play on offense? There’ve been suggestions that he could appear on the Ohio State offense this season. Downs spoke about that possibility this week.
“I definitely take that serious,” he said via On3, laughing. “I feel like I’m an elite player with a ball in my hands. So, I mean, I would never not believe in myself to do something. I definitely believe that’s on the table, but I’m just taking it day by day.”
The Buckeyes expect to win the Big Ten this season for the first time since 2019. They won the conference in the COVID-shortened season of 2020 and have conceded it to rival Michigan in the last three years. If there’s a challenger to them this season, it will be the Oregon Ducks, a newcomer to the conference this year along with USC, UCLA, and reigning National Runner-Up Washington.
