The Texas Longhorns got back in the win column on Saturday with a 27-24 win over the Vanderbilt Commodores in Nashville.

Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers was great in the win, finishing the day 27-for-37 for a season-high 288 passing yards, three touchdown passes, and a pair of interceptions. Ewers completed 17 straight passes at one point in the game.

After the game, head coach Steve Sarkisian praised his quarterback’s resiliency and character in the bounce-back performance.

“If he plays like that for the rest of the year, we’re going to be OK. We’re going to be just fine. You can’t get worse than how it went for [Ewers] last week, especially in that first half, and then his ability to bounce back and show the resolve that he showed. I always say that the sign of the true character of a man is in the face of adversity, and that was a lot of adversity for him, a lot of adversity for us as a team coming off last week’s game,” Sarkisian said via ESPN.

Ewers struggled in the first half of Texas’ 30-15 loss to Georgia, fumbling and throwing an interception as the team limped to a 20-0 deficit. Sarkisian benched Ewers in favor of freshman Arch Manning for some of the game but turned back to the more experienced Ewers before the game ended.

It seems like Ewers has unquestionably reclaimed his starting job. Texas will return to action on November 9 when it hosts the Florida Gators.
