The Texas Longhorns, in need of a running back, landed graduate transfer tailback Velton Gardner from SMU on Wednesday night.

"it’s probably not a traditional transfer, maybe more of a graduate transfer, something of the sort."

Arch Manning will be ready when called upon, and Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian knows it, as he praised the coveted backup.

The Longhorns now have just three healthy scholarship running backs on the roster.
